Making A Little Open Cabinet From Mitred Boxes
I had some maple and tawa wood lying around in my scrap bin and I was going to makes some serving boards from them... but I couldn't help thinking they'd make a nice little open cabinet/set of shelves. I don't really make square things often, so this was really out of my comfort zone! But I had recently made a set of shelves for my workshop very quickly (just plywood screwed together) and people seemed to really like them and I'm currently making a few projects to raffle off to raise money for Help Auckland, a charity that works with survivors of sexual harm so I thought a little cabinet would make a great addition to the draw.
Raffle link here: dosomethinghelpful.org.nz/david-parker
The obvious choice for joinery for the cabinet would've been dovetails, but I've only done them once and don't actually own any beveled edge chisels yet! (although I did just order some) I decided to construct both the main carcass and the draw like two mitred boxes. I like the way they look, but definitely not easy to assemble, I might have been better off with trying dovetails again!
To cut the dado's for the shelves I thought about setting up a router jig but I recently watched this tutorial from Eric Curtis and thought I could probably manage it and it worked out great! video here: ua-cam.com/video/Tc6_pTs2_eQ/v-deo.htmlsi=PrbaHA3RAfXzIj4g
I also needed a router plane and found this little video on how to make one from a chisel, a block of wood and a bolt; ua-cam.com/video/NuvakzyuZA0/v-deo.htmlsi=BMLX9DwEDsdZDS2o it worked great!

Making A Three Legged Stool
I've been doing a lot of reading up about stick chairs lately (mostly the Lost Arts Press stick chair book) and I've been watching lots of videos about making them too and finally decided to dip my toes into the stick chair world with a simple 3 legged stool. I really wanted a stool for my workshop and made myself one out of Ash and then I had just enough walnut lying around so I decided to mak...
Making Wooden Brushes With Natural Tampico Bristles
Inspired by the brushes I saw Anna Robinson and Aspen Golan making I ordered a box of brush fibres a few years ago now. I've made a few brushes since then but it took me a long time to get around to making this video! I used Tampico fibres that I ordered from Caddy Supply www.caddysupply.com/products/natural-tampico-fiber but I'm sure you could do the same thing with other fibres, I've seen peo...
New Workshop, New Workbench... New me??!

We moved house last year and after months of storing builders tools and moving boxes etc I could finally start work on setting up my workshop. I needed to paint, line the walls in the lathe area, build storage shelves and cupboards and find places for all of my tools. I decided to cover building a workbench in this video too as I just wanted to get on with it and make it without filming every d...
Converting My Wooden Bike into an E-bike
About four years ago I built a wooden bike and it's been working great! I decided to see if I could convert my wooden bike in to an Ebike using a front hub motor conversion kit I bought online. My kit came with a 350watt front hub motor which hopefully is just enough to help me up the hills and won't put too much stress on the frame. I haven't cycled very far on it yet but so far I've been impr...

Making a Wooden Bike - Full Build Video
This is a compilation of my wooden bike build videos from 2018, I noticed that lots of people watched the first video but only about a third of the people watched the second and third videos and I figured maybe it would've been better to make one shorter video... so here that is! Sorry if you've seen them before, but I'm sure you'll be glad to know the bike is holding up great and I've cycled i...
Making Simple Wooden Toy Cars
Just a short video on making a couple of simple wooden toy cars, I made these for friends who had babies last year. I used google images to search for car silhouettes and printed them out. The main part of the cars are made out of Ash and I used Walnut for the wheels with a store bought hardwood dowel to join them. I really like using a hole saw to make the wheels as its really quick, accurate ...
12 Of My Favourite Guitar Repair Tools - Guitar Re-Fret and Bridge Install
I've been getting a bit more serious about guitar repair the past few years and have collected a fair few guitar specific tools and I thought it'd be interesting to show some of them and what I use them for. This vintage Elk Galaxy guitar that needed a re-fret seemed like a great opportunity to show them off. I am not sponsored by, or affiliated with Stewart MacDonald but they are obviously whe...

Te tudod , mi Szép.Nice...
Thanks for the update. I subscribed because of this
Glad to hear it was helpful
Hey, thanks!
Lovely job well done😊
is that fiberglass sheet ? is it ? what is this ? its genious.
Hello yes it’s fibreglass cloth, pretty common and readily available!
Cute product. Thanks for sharing
Thank you!
how much heat does it take to loosen the glue?
It varies from guitar to guitar
What size perlite did you use ? . Did you suffer with any cracking in the dome .
Just the standard size that I could buy? I had a bit of cracking, there’s an update video on how it lasted
Perfecto!! Buen trabajo. Te felicito 👍😉
Thank you!!
I love upcyclers ❤
Haha thanks! Yeah all the maple was recycled from the guitar I never finished and the Tawa was given to me by a friend, it had a few nail holes but I managed to mostly avoid them
Nice!!!!!
Nice work Dave!
Very cool video. The homemade jig/tool you have confounds me. I can't understand what it is doing. It seems the bolts in the middle align the string holes in the bridge, but don't understand the function of the two outer screws. You do adjust them it seems, but I don't understand what is happening. Is the only compaction pressure due to the clamp (It seems maybe the screws in the middle pull the bridge down also?) Anyhow, enjoyed the video. This is great for people with less expensive guitars and can only justify a diy fix.
It bolts through the bridge pin holes to apply pressure to the bridge, then there are two bolts on either side to apply pressure to the wings of the bridge so I don’t have to make a custom caul for every bridge I clamp
Huge ASMR tingles just do one regular speeed I almost fell asleep!!
Excellent stuff. Went far above what I would have done. Really skill full.
Thank you!
Well done!
Thanks!
How long did you leave the iron on? No one ever says in these videos
A minute or two? Until the glue is soft enough to get a spatula underneath
Hi you’re wrong thanks! Google skin on frame boats.
Uma obra de arte 🖼️
Brilliant. I think you just manage to get so much done with a minimal set of tools, relying heavily on math and measures to get your design just right. Truly inspiring, thanks for the video David!
Thanks for the nice comment!!
Eu não o colocaria na água!
Haha I built it to be able to enjoy in the water! But I understand your sentiment
Isso não é um barco e sim uma obra de arte!
Where can I get plans for this skin on frame boat ?
GABoats.com
Stunning. 😮😍
Thanks Brian! Need to make sure to position my camera to get your sticker in the background of all my shots though hahaha
could name her "Red All over" 😉
😂
I’m giving this stool away to raise money for charity, more details here dosomethinghelpful.org.nz/david-parker
This is a banger, Dave. Beautiful stool. So jealous of your workshop
Thanks Tom!! Yes very happy with how it turned out ☺️
Well done once again! Always enjoy your videos.
Thank you!!
Nice video, very informative, sincere thanks 😊😊😊
Beautiful work, as always.
Thank you Lydia!! 🩵
"promosm"
I don’t understand?
She's beautiful, they both are. Very nicely done.
What a beauty! And a fascinating combination of ancient craftmanship with new materials!
Thanks! Yeah it’s a super interesting design!!
Gracias.
I don’t have any dimensions, just make it whatever size you want it to be
I can only congratulate you on the skill you used to create this lovely little boat
Thank you!! You’re very kind!
Your video production quality is top-notch <3
Thank you!!
excellent job as usual Dave, but why are you not going cordless with your tools.Surely it would make things a bit easier.
Thanks Peter! Corded is usually cheaper and I don’t need to worry about charging batteries, I’m not planning on going to worksites etc so I don’t mind a cable here and there for a circular saw especially when im also running a dust collection hose to it. My drill is cordless and that would be a pain but other than that I don’t really use that many hand held power tools!
Thanks!!
👏👏👏standing ovation for you
Beautifully done. I would have been tempted to epoxy a couple of layers of GRP sheet over the outside for additional strength, although it would have added to the weight.
honest
Very good video My brother
Excellent video and project!
Thank you! Yeah I might be biased but I love the brushes haha
Looks great! added to the list of things I want to make when I have the time (which is never, lol)!
Hahaha I actually bought the brush fibres in 2020 mid lockdown justifying buying a big box of them with “I can make a video about making brushes! I can sell some brushes to cover the cost!” and then they took 6 months to arrive because of the whole shipping thing and when they did arrive I was otherwise distracted… so it’s only taken me about 4 years to make this video and make enough brushes to sell to recoup the cost of all the fibres 😂
@@DavidParker Ugh just realized it's been 4 years since the lockdowns... How did that happen!
@@TheGrantAlexander 4 years since they started!! Not since they ended! 🥴
I enjoyed watching this video because it gave me a lot of information in a very short time.
Thanks!
I really love watching these :)
Thanks Celia!!
Excelente trabajo 👏👏👏👍😉
